Emma is a director, writer and actor for both stage and screen with over 20 years of professional experience. Emma has built a career telling stories. Her short film, writing and directorial debut, Deb, became a finalist at CinefestOz2020 for the WIFT Best Female Filmmakers Award.
In 2021, Emma won the Excellence in Directing Award at the WA Screen, The Best Documentary Award and WA Made Festival Audience Choice Award for her doco Walk Run Strive, which she wrote and directed and also became a finalist in the 2022 Yugo BAFTA Awards. Emma has just received two ADG Award Nominations for Best Student film and Best Short Subject Documentary for Walk Run Strive.
In 2022 Emma did a director's attachment on the Disney+ series Last Days Of The Space Age on which she shadowed Rachel Ward, and also directed second unit and the Perth unit. She is currently in post-production for Warner Bros. Binge and Foxtel's The Twelve, directing episode 5 for Easy Tiger.
She is passionate about bringing stories to the screen that celebrate the messiness of being human. With her innate sensitivity and empathy, she loves to make work that can hold the heartache and humour in one breath. She is fascinated by humans. She finds them intriguing and complex and so funny at times and loves to hone in on why they do what they do, in factual and scripted work.
Emma's decades of experience as an actor is one of her biggest assets as a director. She knows what actors and subjects need to feel safe and open up, and can bring wonderful stories and performances to light by making people feel at ease.
Emma is on the WA WIFT committee and is particularly passionate about bringing complex, female-led stories to our screen.
